To finish off this first intial round of new posts, I figured I'd share a rare piece of dancehall history. I have seen the Conscious Music 12'' version repressed by both Dugout (UK) and Digikiller (US) Records, but have never seen this track offered on a 7'' format, let alone a different label as well. While the track is identical to the other label's, it is probably a much more limited press. The song was probably written not long after Saw's 1988 shady death. From what I've heard, he was rundown by a hitman in Texas for owing drug money. Either way it was a huge loss for the dancehall scene, though his music and style has become ridiculously influencial over the years.

Though not the most stand out lyrics or riddim, for some reason I haven't been able to get this song out of my head... and that's a good thing! G-Isaacs digi stylee son.

Another singer you've probably noticed I'm a big fan of. As the homie Big Red said "Early Yami is good Yami!" Here he is at 17 years old fucking this Augustus Pablo produced track up something nasty. Nothing like some rare crucial 80's digi roots.


He's A Rocka, She's A Rocka

Pliers - Them Can't Tek We 7'' [198x Firehouse Original Pressing]

Sound killing at its finest... In case you couldn't tell yet, I'm a big fan of sweet singing voices like Pliers, Little John, Pinchers, Thriller U, etc. Especially when backed by a wicked riddim, like Tubby's here.


Can't Test Di Champion

Michael Prophet, Scion Sashay Success, John Holt - Super Star Mix Part 2 7'' [1984 Jah Life Time Original Pressing]

Cut to the same riddim as Barrington Levy's "Raggamuffin" track, this star trio lights up the ominous beat beautifully. Only dissapointment is that the original pressing doesn't have the same dub version as the repress, which has a killer horn section. So, only vocal side posted here. Either way, Hyman Wright put together something special here.

Finally back everyone... I lagged super hard on getting my shit fixed when it ended up being only a simple virus removal. Though I was told I might need to replace my hard drive soon. Ridiculous riddim here.... very similar to his fameous "Runnings" hit single on Redman as well . Another guy who should have recorded more than he did, this tune blows me away every time I hear it. Y'all will probably agree once you take a listen.

Sadly, my computer crashed last night when I let my friend try to look someone up on Myspace (fuckin social networking sites!). Luckily I have all my files backed up... But I won't be able to post anything new until I get my shit fixed or cop a new one. With that said, it might be a couple weeks before you see anything new pop up, but I'm not planning on letting this blog die. I'm pissed too cause I just picked up a couple crucial 7'' I was hoping to share with y'all, but it'll have to wait. Hell of a way to start the New Years...
